German Industrial Equipment for Dubai & UAE, Import Guide 2026

Importing German industrial equipment to Dubai and UAE: Jebel Ali customs, VAT recovery, local agents, and which German suppliers already have Gulf offices.

The UAE imports over €3 billion in German industrial equipment annually. Dubai alone handles 60% of all German machinery entering the Gulf. If you're buying pumps, CNC machines, or heavy equipment from Germany, here's what you actually need to know about getting it through Jebel Ali, handling VAT, and which suppliers already have local offices.

Jebel Ali: Your Entry Point

95% of German industrial equipment enters the UAE through Jebel Ali Port in Dubai. Clearance typically takes 3-7 days for standard machinery, 7-14 days for oversized or hazardous items. You'll need:

  • Commercial invoice with HS code (Harmonized System), your German supplier provides this
  • Certificate of Origin, EUR.1 form for preferential duty rates on EU goods
  • Bill of Lading, sea freight documentation
  • Packing list with dimensions and weights for each crate

German Suppliers WITH UAE Offices (Buy Direct)

Important: Just because a supplier has a UAE office doesn't mean they stock everything locally. Most keep only fast-moving items. Heavy machinery is still made to order in Germany. The UAE office handles sales and service, not manufacturing.

The Hidden Advantage: VAT Recovery

UAE import VAT is 5%, and it's recoverable if your company is VAT-registered. But many buyers forget to claim it. On an €800,000 machine, that's €40,000 in recoverable VAT that often goes unclaimed. Your German supplier won't remind you, it's not their problem.

Local Agent Requirement

Some UAE free zones require a local service agent for industrial equipment registration. This is different from the old 51/49 sponsorship model, it's a service agreement, not ownership. Budget AED 15,000-50,000/year for a local service agent if you're setting up a new operation.

How I Help Gulf Buyers

  • I identify which German suppliers have UAE presence vs. which require direct import
  • I handle German-language negotiation, you get factory pricing, not distributor markup
  • I coordinate documentation (EUR.1, HS codes, shipping) with the supplier
  • I can arrange factory visits in Germany, or attend on your behalf
